Pests & Diseases
Most lawns from time to time come under attack from pests. The area you live in and your surroundings can have a great effect on this. For example being surrounded by fields can mean that the adult form of pest is most likely to be in higher numbers and can easily travel onto the lawn than that of a city lawn. A couple of such pests are defined here.
We also offer other specialist treatments for other surfaces to include concrete, stone brickwork, cement rendering, ceramic tiles, wood, glass, metals and slate. This includes treating slime, algae and lichen from stonework and patios too. These are very popular as we often do not need to pressure wash the surface. Results from this “Softwashing“ are very good often bringing the stone/paving and blockwork back to a great finish, leaving no residual chemical after eight hours.
Chafer Grubs
These can completely destroy a lawn if left unchecked, and must not be ignored. If you see patches of grass seemingly dying off with birds and other animals feeding and digging in those areas it must be treated.Remedial work is often required once the chafers are gone. These are difficult to control often as most chemicals to treat these have been removed in 2016.
Leather Jackets
These are often confused with chafer grubs and are in fact the larva of the crane fly (daddy long legs). These will not do as much damage as the chafers and will make the lawn look sorry than destroy it. High bird activity and yellowing grass is often a giveaway sign. The adult crane fly can be seen late summer and also give a good indicator that they may be present. Again most chemicals used to treat these have been removed from the market in 2016, other than nematodes.
